Undergraduate Programme (UG – CIVIL)
As the technological revolution continues, the world's population increases, and environmental concerns mount, Civil Engineering skills are needed throughout the world. Whatever area one chooses, i.e., design, construction, research, planning, teaching, or management, Civil Engineering offers a wide range of career choices. Keeping this in view, a course in Civil Engineering was started by VNEC, Shorapur, with the sanction and approval of AICTE, New Delhi, and VTU, Belgaum, in the academic year 2010 with an intake of 60 students. The Department has also taken an initiative to build an R&D Centre. The Department has well-qualified and experienced faculty members. The Material Testing Lab, Surveying Lab, Civil CAD Lab, Hydraulics and Hydraulic Machinery Lab, Engineering Geology Lab, Geotechnical Engineering Lab, Concrete and Highways Engineering Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, and Structural Engineering Lab are well equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and equipment. Technical talks and lectures by experts from industry and academia are organized under the auspices of the Civil Engineering Forum for the benefit of students. Technical visits are also arranged periodically for the benefit of students. The students are encouraged to participate in technical competitions, quizzes, paper presentations, workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. The Department has also started a postgraduate course in Structural Engineering. The other objectives are to make the Department an effective R&D Centre as well as a Centre for Industrial Consultancy Services.
